Since 2011 kind of sucked, we had some pretty high hopes for 2012. And we weren’t disappointed. Sure, there were some serious downs (see below for the list of casualties), but it was also a gigantic and optimistic year for all aspects of culture.
So whether you’re talking about the crazy amount of new records we got from our old favorite bands, the ‘90s nostalgia-overload that seemed to be sweeping the nation, the inescapability of Lena Dunham’s naked bod, or the inevitable fall of Whitney’s (both Houston and Cummings), it’s safe to say that 2013 is already shaping up to be pretty damn interesting.

BOSTON MUSIC THINGS
WFNX IS SOLD
TO CLEAR CHANNEL
Mixed feelings ensue. But at the end of the day, the Dig supports local music, and we were a little bit sad sad that an
integral member of that family had to say goodbye. Online radio just ain’t the same.
AMANDA PALMER
KICKSTARTER CONTROVERSY
The usually beloved Palmer raised
over a million dollars on Kickstarter
for her new album and tour, then told
local musicians all she could pay them
was sweaty hugs and exposure.
We’re good on the hugs, thanks.
BOSTON BAND CRUSH
SAID GOODBYE
One of our other favorite Boston music
blogs decided to break our hearts in 2012 by shutting their doors to focus on other things. Now it’s up to us to make up for the deficit of awesome on the Boston-centric interwebs.
AEROSMITH PLAYS A
“SURPRISE SHOW” IN ALLSTON
Even though it definitely wasn’t a surprise and it’s pretty generous that we’re even calling it a “show.” The ruckuscaused aging rock fans to spread over Comm. Ave. faster than herpes would have at an Aerosmith show 30 years ago.
THE SINCLAIR
OPENS
Sure, it took a little longer than expected. But guess what? We have a really pretty music venue in Harvard Square now! It even serves delicious food!
Everything is going to go our way now, guys!
AWESOME LADY THINGS IN 2012
LENA DUNHAM
GOES MAINSTREAM
Girls is an awesome show;
Lena Dunham is a sassy bitch,
and all you haters should bow down to
the one woman who makes
being a millenial look good. K?
CURIOSITY ROVER’S
TWITTER
Sure, probably falls under
“one giant leap for mankind,”
but have you seen this thing’s Twitter account?
Definitely a sister.
You’re welcome again, Earthlings.
